First Steps for New Students
Planning on coming to ESU and you don’t know where to start?
We try to make it easy for you. Here are some step by step instructions for you to follow along with helpful resources. If you need any help, you can always reach out to us at veterans@esu.edu.
First Steps Checklist
If you have not already done so, apply for your benefits at Vets.gov or VA.gov. Approximately 6-8 weeks after you apply you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in the mail. Please bring the Certificate of Eligibility and DD 214 (Member 4) or NOBE to the ESU Student Veteran Center.
Do your FAFSA. Fill out the application for 2023-2024 academic year, and use 2021 tax returns.
Apply to use your VA Educational Benefits at ESU. Complete the VA Certification Request form.
Order and submit your Joint Service Transcript. Air Force service members, order through the College of the Air Force.
You may be eligible for EAP (Education Assistance Program). Applicants must sign a 6-year service agreement with the PA National Guard and not currently be receiving an ROTC scholarship. You can now apply online.
If applicable, apply for Federal Tuition Assistance.
