More than ever, inhabitants of democracies must be informed about the political system in which they reside and understand how it interacts with other countries' governments and global challenges. Studying political science will provide you with up-to-date knowledge of significant national and international political topics as well as help you acquire lifelong research, reasoning, and analytical abilities.

There are three distinct concentrations within the 18-credit Political Science minor.

Choose one of the three

  1. Politics and Government Concentration: Government and politics impact our lives in numerous ways from laws to the economy and our rights as citizens. A minor in Politics and Government allows students to become more engaged citizens and allows them to have a greater understanding of current issues impacting their lives.
  2. Pre-Law Concentration: Students that select the prelaw minor find that it opens the door to employment in international corporations and nonprofit organizations. This minor allows students to increase their competitive job advantage in their understanding how the law intersects with many different fields from medicine, social work, business administration and criminal justice among others. This minor is also invaluable for students that wish to enter law school.
  3. European Studies Concentration: In an effort to comprehend Europe's contribution to global politics and cross-cultural exchange, this concentration focuses on the new Europe and its historical and cultural contexts. It includes the study of European institutions and contexts in addition to both contemporary and traditional European cultural products (literature, film, visual art, and electronic media).

If you are enrolled in a major where, depending on your preferences, you can get experience in politics or law or a vocation that involves a growing amount of government regulation or policy.

The Political Science Minor might provide the foundation for a deeper comprehension of your own field. Additionally, it will assist you in understanding a political environment that is becoming more complex and that we must navigate in our capacity as citizens.

Students who wish to sharpen their abilities to engage with concepts and issues related to politics and government in an informed and critical manner should consider minoring in political science.
