The minor in Hospitality Data Analytics provides students with the ability to develop analytical skills to discover information from large amounts of data, eliminating guesswork from planning marketing campaigns to create a comprehensive analysis of a company’s financial status and establish a revenue stream.

Students who complete this program will have a solid foundation in:

Proficiency in Data Analysis Software

Students will gain proficiency in essential software tools widely used in the industry: Excel, Python, and Tableau. Excel is a powerful tool for data management, analysis, and visualization, offering a wide range of functions to manage and interpret data effectively. Python, a versatile programming language, allows for advanced data analysis, data scrapping (e.g., online reviews), and machine learning through its extensive libraries and frameworks. Tableau is a leading data visualization software that enables users to create interactive and shareable dashboards, turning complex data sets into actionable insights. Together, these tools equip students with the technical skills needed to analyze data comprehensively and present findings effectively, preparing them for successful careers in the hospitality and business-related fields.

Opportunity to Attain the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA)

Students will be prepared and have the opportunity to take the CHIA certification exam. The CHIA certification is a globally recognized certification program specifically designed for professionals and students in the hospitality and tourism industry. This certificate focuses on the essential aspects of analyzing and interpreting hotel industry data, demonstrating that recipients have a comprehensive understanding of various analytical tools and techniques related to hotel operations analytics. The CHIA certification is a collaborative effort between the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), Smith Travel Research (STR), and International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE).
